The Algorithm Whisperers: Why REO is Rising While SEO ReshufflesThe digital marketing landscape is a fickle beast. Just when you think you've mastered the art of search engine optimization (SEO), the algorithms shift, leaving you scrambling for traction. But fear not, savvy marketers! A new hero emerges from the chaos: Recommendation Engine Optimization (REO). While SEO is still the master of the search query, REO is the silver-tongued charmer whispering your brand's secrets directly into the ears of potential customers. So, why the buzz around REO? Buckle up, because it's about to redefine online visibility: 1. Algorithmic Roulette: Remember when SEO felt like a surefire path to the top of the SERP? Those days are fading. Search engine algorithms are constantly evolving, leaving businesses in a perpetual game of catch-up. REO, on the other hand, thrives within the curated ecosystems of platforms like Amazon and YouTube. Master their recommendation algorithms, and you'll become the trusted confidante, guiding users straight to your brand. 2. From Clicks to Champions: SEO gets you traffic, but REO builds loyalty. By optimizing product listings and leveraging positive reviews, you turn customers into brand advocates. Their whispers become your megaphone, amplifying your reach and propelling you beyond the fleeting wins of SEO. 3. Choice Overload in the Algorithmic Aisle: Today's consumers are drowning in a sea of options. Standing out on search results pages is like shouting in a crowded marketplace. REO throws you a life preserver. By optimizing your placement within recommendation engines, you become the beacon in the chaos, cutting through the noise and leading users directly to your doorstep. 4. Trust: The New Currency of Conversion: Forget clickbait headlines and keyword stuffing. In the age of algorithmic curation, trust is the golden goose. REO builds trust by leveraging positive recommendations and social proof. It turns you from a faceless brand into a trusted neighbor, and that, my friends, is the key to unlocking sustained conversions. Superior Effect Marketing: Your REO Architects

What New Business Owners Need to Know About Picking the Right Structure for Their Startup12/15/2023 When you're starting a business, one of the first decisions you'll have to make is what type of business entity to establish. This decision can have significant tax and personal liability implications, so it's important to choose carefully. The most common business structures are sole proprietorships, partnerships, limited liability companies (LLCs), and corporations. Today, Superior Effect Marketing shares some important info you need to know before selecting a structure for your upcoming business. Business Structures for Entrepreneurs
While there are several types of business entities you can choose from, these are four of the most common for emerging entrepreneurs: ● Sole Proprietorship: A sole proprietorship is the simplest and most common type of business structure. It's an unincorporated business owned and operated by one person with no distinction between the business and the owner. The owner has complete control over all aspects of the business and is personally liable for all debts and obligations taken on by the business. ● Partnership: A partnership is an unincorporated business owned and operated by two or more people. Partnerships can be either general or limited. In a general partnership, all partners are equally liable for the debts and obligations of the business. In a limited partnership, there is at least one general partner who is liable for the debts and obligations of the business, while the other partners are only liable up to the amount of their investment. Limited partnerships are often used by businesses that need to raise capital from investors. ● Limited Liability Company (LLC): An LLC is a hybrid legal entity that combines features of both a corporation and a partnership. Like a corporation, an LLC offers its owners limited liability protection from debts and obligations incurred by the business. Like a partnership, an LLC has pass-through taxation, meaning that profits and losses are "passed through" to the owners' personal income tax returns. LLCs can be owned by one or more individuals, corporations, other LLCs, or foreign entities. Before registering, it’s crucial to learn the ins and outs of C Corp vs LLC to ensure that you have sufficient liability shielding. ● Corporation: A corporation is a legal entity that is separate and distinct from its owners. Corporations are owned by shareholders and managed by a board of directors. Shareholders elect directors to oversee the management of the corporation and make major decisions on behalf of the company. Corporations offer their shareholders limited liability protection from debts and obligations of the business. Profits earned by the corporation are subject to corporate income tax, while dividends paid to shareholders are subject to personal income tax. Considerations for Picking a Structure When choosing a business structure, there are several factors you should take into account, including: ● Liability protection: How much personal liability are you willing to assume? ● Taxation: How will your business be taxed? ● Formality: How formal do you want your business operations to be? ● Ownership: Who will own your business? ● Location: Where will your business be located? ● Duration: How long do you plan on being in business? Registering Your Business Once you've chosen a business structure, you'll need to register your business with your state government. You can do this online or in person at your local Secretary of State office. The process typically takes less than an hour and involves filing some paperwork and paying a filing fee. Once your registration is complete, you'll be issued an identification number that you'll use when filing your taxes each year. You may also need to obtain a federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the IRS if you plan on hiring employees. Create a Logo Designing a logo for your brand or business doesn't have to be time-consuming or expensive. Thanks to a range of online tools available today, you can create a professional and visually appealing logo for free within minutes. Online tools provide a wide array of templates, fonts, and icons that can be customized to suit your brand's personality and message. By using these tools, you can achieve massive time efficiencies, as they eliminate the need to learn complex design software or hire a professional designer. You can experiment with different designs until you find the one that best represents your brand, all without leaving your web browser. Staying Organized Once your business is up and running, it's important to stay organized so that you can keep track of your finances and comply with government regulations. There are several software programs available that can help you manage your finances and stay compliant with tax laws. QuickBooks is one popular option that offers bookkeeping, invoicing, tax preparation, payroll, and other features specifically designed for small businesses. Another option is Xero, which offers similar features but with a focus on online collaboration between businesses and their advisors (e.g., accountant). Regardless of which software program you choose, staying organized will save you time and money in the long run. Marketing Your New Business Content marketing can be a cost-effective tactic for marketing your new business. It involves the creation and sharing of online material, such as blogs, social media posts, and videos, that does not explicitly promote a brand but is intended to stimulate interest in its products or services. This approach can be significantly less expensive than traditional advertising channels, while often providing a higher return on investment. By consistently delivering valuable information to potential customers, you can build trust and brand loyalty, which can lead to increased sales over time. Furthermore, content marketing can also improve your search engine rankings, making your business more visible to potential customers online. There are several factors to consider, including liability protection, taxation, formality, ownership, location, and duration. And finally, once your business is up and running, it's important to stay organized so that you can keep track of your finances and comply with government regulations. The ever-evolving Google algorithm presents both a challenge and an opportunity for marketers. While understanding its intricacies can be complex, staying informed about its latest updates and trends is crucial for ensuring your brand remains visible in search results. Staying on top of Google’s algorithm will always be our top priority to provide our partner's success while maximizing ROI! Let's dive into the key takeaways from Google's recent transparency efforts and explore how we, as marketers, can leverage them to our advantage.
Understanding Google's Ranking Factors: Google uses a complex system of algorithms and machine learning models to rank websites. These factors, often referred to as ranking signals, are constantly evolving, making it necessary for us to stay updated. The most important ones include:
Google heavily relies on user click data to evaluate its ranking results. Understanding how users interact with your website and search results can provide valuable insights for optimization. This data can help you identify:
Personalization and the User Journey: Google personalizes search results based on individual user data and past behavior. This means understanding user journeys and tailoring your content to specific needs and preferences becomes crucial for effective marketing.
Harnessing the Data Network Effect: Google's success, in part, is attributed to the "data network effect." This principle states that the more data Google collects, the better its algorithms become at understanding user intent and delivering relevant results. This creates a powerful feedback loop where quality data leads to improved algorithms, which in turn attracts more users and generates more data. We, as marketers, leverage this concept by:
As we approach the end of 2023, it's a crucial time for businesses to reflect on their progress and plan strategically to finish the year on a high note. By embracing these tools and strategies, you can set your business up for success and set the stage for a promising start to the upcoming year. Stay proactive, flexible, and committed–it can only lead to success! During a discovery meeting with us, we work to find out what types of marketing will be the best fit for your business. We will discuss creating a marketing plan and what services and approaches best suit your business and position it for growth. Google Ads, social media, and websites are just a few of the services that you might already have in mind. However, we often recommend adding a blog to your plan. You might question the relevance of a blog in 2023 but we assure you that they have their place. Google loves blogs. Among the various tools and techniques, blogs have become an integral component for effective marketing strategies. Their significance cannot be understated, especially when considering the following statistics: "Blogs appear 23% of the time in the top 5 positions of Google Search," "69% - 74% of organic clicks go to the first 5 Google positions," and "54% of people read a blog once a week." If these statistics haven’t convinced you yet, let’s dive deeper into the importance of blogs together.
One of the most compelling reasons to incorporate blogs into marketing strategies is their ability to improve search engine rankings. With the staggering revelation that blogs appear 23% of the time in the top 5 positions of Google Search, it becomes clear that regular, high-quality blog content can significantly enhance a website's visibility. By producing relevant and engaging content, businesses can strategically incorporate targeted keywords, thus increasing the likelihood of appearing in top search results. This visibility increases brand exposure and fosters a greater online presence, which is crucial for establishing authority and credibility. The data indicating that 69% - 74% of organic clicks go to the first five positions in Google highlights the importance of securing a spot in these prime positions. Blogs serve as a vehicle to achieve this goal, enabling businesses to attract organic traffic and ultimately secure higher click-through rates. By consistently publishing informative and valuable content, companies can attract potential customers to explore their website. As a result, effective blog marketing can drive substantial traffic to a website, providing ample opportunities to convert visitors into loyal customers. With 54% of people regularly reading blogs, it is evident that blogs play a significant role in developing audience engagement and building trust. By delivering valuable insights, addressing consumer pain points, and offering solutions to important issues, businesses can establish themselves as industry leaders and trusted sources of information. This continuous engagement through insightful and educational content not only nurtures a loyal customer base but also positions the brand as a reliable authority within the respective industry, further solidifying consumer trust and loyalty. Blogs provide a platform for businesses to showcase their industry expertise. Through well-researched and thought-provoking content, companies can demonstrate their in-depth knowledge, insights, and innovative ideas within their field. This not only helps to differentiate the brand from competitors but also creates a lasting impression on the target audience. By consistently sharing valuable and authoritative content, businesses can establish themselves as go-to resources, ultimately fostering brand loyalty and affinity among consumers. This blog probably hopefully has you thinking more about blogs–which proves the case! The statistics illustrating the relevance of blogs in top search results, the high percentage of organic clicks, and the substantial reader engagement underline the critical role of blogs in marketing strategies. Embracing blogs as a powerful marketing tool can drive increased visibility, enhance brand credibility, and foster long-term customer relationships. With their potential to boost SEO rankings, generate traffic, and build trust, blogs remain an indispensable asset for businesses striving to thrive. By leveraging the power of high quality and well thought out blogs, your company can effectively position itself for sustained growth and success! We also understand that not everyone loves to write and writing a consistent blog might be a bit overwhelming, especially when you are trying to run your own business. That’s why we’re here! We can help you create a blog or content strategy that you can follow and write yourself, or we can assist with writing your blog and remove that from your to-do list. When we write for your company, we utilize keywords, highlight your industry trends, create converting calls-to-action, and do this all in your ‘voice.’ For example, we write and post a blog for Northland Lodge once a month. The blogs usually have an inviting tone, loaded with keywords to improve SEO. Every blog we post generates ample booking requests. It’s impossible to deny the success. So let yourself off the hook, and let us help! How many scams do you think you dodge a day? Wake up, scam call. Open your email, junk mail. Turn the tv on, fake news. Where does it end? Well we’ll be the first to say it doesn’t get any easier in the business world. Luckily, we’ve been in the game long enough to spot a scam from a mile away. We’re here to protect our partners from marketing scams. Are you just now thinking, “wait, there are marketing scams?” If so, that’s okay! You’re exactly the place you need to be. Domains are crucial in the modern marketing world. A well-chosen domain name enhances brand recognition, credibility, and online visibility. It not only represents a company's identity but also influences its online presence, search engine rankings, and overall brand perception. Now imagine you receive a letter in the mail telling you need to make a payment on your domain. In fear of losing the money and work you’ve put into using your domain you might just pay it without thinking twice. At SEM, this is a common scam we see. We even receive these “bills” ourselves. When you partner with us, we’ll use our decades of experience to steer you away from fraudulent mail. Scrolling through your email and finding out you’ve won a million dollars or finding out a Nigerian prince needs to borrow $500 while promising millions has become a daily eyeroll. These types of phishing emails are easy to spot and delete. Now, what if you get an email from someone you partner with claiming that you need to update payments or personal information. It can be hard to spot these cloned emails, especially when they appear to be from someone you know. That’s why we’re here. We’ll look into suspicious emails and let you know what’s real and what’s not. Maybe these types of scams are easy for you to avoid, now what about real people over charging you? Or not completing a promised service? This can leave you feeling frustrated and sometimes broke. We’ve met many partners that have explained how easily money has been taken from them from other agencies without anything to show for it. We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it again. Your success is our success. We’ll make sure you're putting your resources in the right places. We’re familiar enough with the marketing world that we’ll connect you with the right people and services. This ensures you’ll never flush time, money, and/or energy down the toilet again. Your grandma isn’t the only one susceptible to falling victim to a scam. Protect yourself and your business–partner with us today. We’ll always have your best interest at heart, so you can do what you do best–run your business. As the temperature has been dropping, we can’t help but notice it’s been getting chillier in our houses when we get home from work. Even the most stubborn have finally (and begrudgingly) turned on our furnaces for the winter. While things are warming up at home, things have also been heating up in the office! Over the last month, we’ve launched two new websites for two very different types of clients and we’re proud to have played a part in growing their businesses. We love having such a diverse range of people that chose to partner with us! Supporting Small Business Our first launch over the last month was a gift shop in Ashland, WI, Home Expressions. The owners of Home Expressions, Tricia Bowers and Lindsey Zifco, have been an absolute delight to work with, and we love the enthusiasm the have for their shop! These ladies work tirelessly to make their shop just as relevant as the big box stores. They are proving that a small, privately owned shop can offer just as many goodies as their large competitors, AND keep prices very competitive. But wait, they’re not done expanding their business reach! We are working on finishing their online store (watch out Amazon) and the new site launch is just around the corner! As we get closer to the holiday season, working with them has been a great reminder of the importance of supporting small businesses in your community. We hope each of you takes the time to get out and check out what sorts of businesses and services your friends and neighbors have to offer, and support those businesses with your hard earned dollars this year! Everyone Needs a Little Mercy Another website we’ve developed and launched is for The House of Mercy, a new sober house in Duluth, MN. We were approached by their Director, Clinton Strother, to build a website to help people who are on their road to sobriety find resources so they can start making plans to re-enter into a sober lifestyle. Many of us have people in our lives that have struggled with addiction, and when people do make the decision to get better, it’s so important they have a place to readjust after their time in treatment. We knew that this was an important project to take on, and we are so proud to have been able to develop this website for the House of Mercy. We know that many lives will be changed for the better living within those walls! It’s ALL fun and games As some of you may know, Superior Effect Marketing does a lot of work with clients in the tourism and gaming industries. This week, Summer was out in Vegas for the yearly G2E (Global Gaming Expo). The G2E is a gambling industry trade show presented by the American Gaming Association. While there, she was able to get a sneak peak regarding the newest trends in marketing your business and resort that will be coming in 2024. We are so excited to put this knowledge into action for our clients in that industry, and look forward to gaining new clients and applying what we learn each and every day! Stay warm out there
We hope you’ve enjoyed our October update, and please check out the new work we’ve published. If something you see inspires you, reach out and let us put our knowledge to work for you! Stay warm out there, have a safe and Happy Halloween, and look out for our November Newsletter coming up! Knowing someone without social media is rare but somehow knowing someone who can manage social media effectively might be more rare. Every platform is constantly evolving to fit the users’ needs, which makes it more difficult to remain up-to-date on algorithms when marketing on different social platforms. With the average user using 6.6 platforms, how is your average individual supposed to keep up? At Superior Effect Marketing it’s not only our job, but it’s our priority to stay on top of the social media universe. So, if you were looking for some tips on social media, you’ve come to the right place.
Authentic Engagement: Before diving into community building, it's crucial to ensure your team reflects the community you want to attract. Authenticity is critical for the success of your social media presence. People can easily detect insincerity and canned posts, so it's essential to engage with your audience in a genuine way. If you find yourself needing outside experts to connect with your own audience, it's a sign that something needs to change. Niche Over Mass: Social media trends are evolving, and we're witnessing a shift away from mass followings to a focus on niche topics. It's interesting to note that humans naturally gravitate towards connecting with smaller groups of like-minded individuals, similar to tribes. Platforms like Discord and BeReal are thriving because they enable personal connections within specific niches. Instead of trying to target the masses, concentrate on your chosen niche and position yourself as a thought leader within that community. Building and Maintaining: Building a social media community is similar to nurturing a long-term relationship. Just as in a marriage, it requires continuous effort, learning, and the addition of value on a daily basis. To establish yourself as the go-to authority within your community, you must be committed and unwavering in your dedication. The Power of Humor: Humor is a potent tool for establishing an emotional connection between your brand and your audience. Brands that truly understand their audience have successfully used humor to resonate with their followers. However, it's important to note that imitating may not be the best method to inject humor in your social stream. Be original, and you’d be surprised at the engagement you’ll receive. Recent studies suggest that brands should consider breaking away from the mold and going against the tide to stand out. Building Your Social Team: Recognize that no single individual can provide a complete solution. Self-awareness is crucial in marketing, and it's essential to understand your strengths and weaknesses. To offer a comprehensive service, consider bringing in specialists who can complement your skills and handle areas where you may lack expertise. This is a perfect opportunity to partner with a marketing firm that you trust, and who can provide a more complete solution. Adding a Human Touch: Modern marketing acknowledges that imperfections can be beautiful. There's a deep understanding of human emotions and the right moments to connect with them. Making calculated mistakes can build trust, as it shows your brand is run by real people who aren't afraid to be imperfect. It can be very refreshing when you see a major brand with a big budget share a post with a typo - we are all human after all! Building a thriving social media community is an art that goes well beyond numbers. It requires authenticity, commitment, and a deep understanding of your audience's emotions. These valuable insights provide a roadmap for marketers seeking to create meaningful connections in the ever-evolving world of social media. Building a community on social media is both an art and a science, demanding dedication, creativity, and the willingness to stand out in a crowded digital landscape. We are always excited to help businesses create and manage their social media presence and have an outstanding record doing so. We would love to partner with you! There has been A LOT of controversy–mostly scrutiny towards Google Ads. When you’re investing a lot of money into your marketing, you want to know it’s worth it. Now the question is…Is it? Google recently admitted openly to quietly adjusting ad prices to meet targets. The search engine “frequently” changes the auctions it uses to sell search ads, increasing the cost of ads by as much as 5% for the average advertiser. For some businesses, it went up by as much as 10%! At SEM we recognize that transparency is everything in a business relationship. It is one of our cornerstone values and why our customers and partners trust us. So in the spirit of remaining transparent, we’re going to break down what’s going on with Google for you and dive into the details of this admission and its implications for advertisers–like us.
In a surprising turn of events, Google has openly admitted to making quiet adjustments to ad prices in order to meet their targets. This revelation comes eight years after Google Ad executive Jerry Dischler denied any manipulation of ad auctions. The admission has sent shockwaves through the pay-per-click (PPC) community and raised concerns about the trustworthiness of Google's advertising platform. The acknowledgment by Google has left many disheartened. This admission raises concerns about the trustworthiness and credibility of Google's advertising platform. Trust is everything in the world of advertising, and Google's admission undermines this trust. The search giant's pursuit of quarterly targets, aimed at boosting employee morale, comes at the expense of businesses, both small and large, that rely on Google's advertising platform. This revelation prompts advertisers to reconsider their reliance on Google. While the PPC community had suspicions about these practices, the admission has brought them into the spotlight. Advertisers are now questioning whether Google truly has their best interests at heart or if it's primarily focused on meeting financial goals. One key issue raised by the industry is Google's lack of transparency. Advertisers expect honesty and openness from the platform they invest in. The recent admission calls into question the validity of Google's claims that it acts in the best interests of advertisers. The perception of Google's actions being driven by profit motives rather than advertiser benefits has left many disillusioned. Another concern is the use of misleading terminology. Google's practices, presented as auctions with bids and bid strategies, may not accurately represent the reality of how ad prices are adjusted. The use of such terminology can lead to confusion and skepticism among advertisers. During a federal antitrust trial, Google's Ad executive, Jerry Dischler, revealed the existence of something called RGSP (Ranking by Gross Search Platform). This practice involved switching the auction results to boost Google's revenue, positioning the second-place bidder in the top advertiser slot and the initial winner would be moved to the second position. Advertisers find this approach questionable and question the fairness of such actions. Now, advertisers may rethink utilizing Google and look into alternatives to Google Ads. The loss of trust and credibility could prompt a migration away from Google's advertising platforms and explore other options, such as auto-applied recommendations, AI-driven solutions, or different advertising platforms altogether. The admission by Google of quietly adjusting ad prices has ignited a heated debate within the advertising community. It has raised concerns about transparency, trustworthiness, and the accuracy of terminology used by the tech giant. Advertisers are left to ponder whether their reliance on Google Ads remains justified. The repercussions of this admission may well reshape the landscape of digital advertising, as advertisers seek more transparent and trustworthy platforms for their campaigns. Transparency is at the top of our values as a business. We think it’s important to note the changes in the advertising world so everyone is kept in loop. We continue to monitor Google’s ever-evolving practices to ensure our customers’ and partners’ marketing budgets are spent with the best return on investment and as wisely as possible. As we’ve said before, when you partner with us we become a part of your team. We do everything we can to stay in-the-know to increase your overall revenue and grow your business. |
