Social media can be tricky, especially if you don’t have a tech-savvy Gen Z around. We all scroll to find cute puppy videos or funny pranks, there is an algorithm that makes your post soar or sink. It is constantly evolving, however, the main goal is to show users content they will enjoy. Leveraging the algorithm to maximize your business’ reach is key to being successful on social media and staying relevant.
If you’re struggling to get likes on your business’ social media, we have a few tips that you can utilize to boost your page!
Prioritize Engagement
You want likes, comments, and shares? You’re going to have to run engaging content, respond back to comments, and encourage UGC! When your posts get high engagement, the algorithms favor it and push it forward. Ask questions and create clear CTAs  to prompt responses. Show your audience that you are listening and give authentic, valuable comments. When users see your content and think it is interesting, relatable, or authentic, they are more likely to share - which pushes your account to non-followers and other users.
Create High-Quality and Relevant Content
Speaking about interesting, relatable, and authentic content, the algorithm pushes content that is more high-quality. Don’t just post for the sake of it; be proud of what you post and make sure it resonates with your audience, it speaks for your brand. Once you start putting out this great content, you can study what your audience likes, doesn’t like, and any other feedback. The more relevant and appealing your content is to your audience, the more engagement you will receive.

Experiment with different types of content, from photos to videos and stories to basic text. What works best? Right now, video content is HUGE! Whether it is a trend you are getting in on or a basic informational video or a podcast-style sit-down video, those are the things to post! But don’t forget about static images, especially ones that show real humans, not AI-generated or infographics. With these posts, make sure your captions don’t drag down the power of the post! Add to the engagement with attractive prompts, humor, or stories with a CTA.
Consistency and Timing
We know we just said not to post just for the sake of it, and we mean it, but make sure that you are maintaining a regular schedule. Don’t post one time every few months with 0 strategy. Post at least once a month. We recommend once or twice a week or once every 2 weeks, so that your audience doesn’t forget about you and still wants to engage. Posting multiple times a day is not recommended as it can cause audience fatigue which can lead to unfollowing, lower engagement rates, and you lose that authenticity. Plus, you lose that high-quality factor when you mass produce content.

There are also times of day that are better to post than others. It is based on your audience, so there’s not a “one size fits all” solution here. But generally in the morning, mid-day (lunch time), and after dinner are the times that people are usually on their phones. Finding the sweet spot of when your target audience engages more may take some time and trials, but make sure there is some system and strategy in place.
Measure, Measure, Measure
Monitor your performance regularly. How many likes are you getting? Any comments? What time did you post those posts? This information gives you key insight on the best performing content and audience demographics. If you don’t like the results, don’t be afraid to try different things. And remember, the algorithm is always changing. Something that worked last month may not work this month, that’s just the way it goes. Adapt and conquer!
Social media is a huge key to being successful. Word-of-mouth just doesn't do as much anymore. When you take these few steps of creating great content, the algorithm will work in your favor. Navigating the changing landscapes of social media algorithms can feel overwhelming and a constant battle, but it is important to stay relevant.
